Discover Tongeren, Belgium’s oldest city
Tongeren is the largest continuous archaeological complex of the Low Countries. En route you come upon one place of historical interest after another. From Roman town ramparts and medieval towers to an impressive Gothic basilica and a charming beguinage. The Gallo-Roman Museum, chosen in 2011 as European Museum of the Year, gives you a look at the secrets of Limburg´s distant past. Combine your trip to the oldest city with a visit to the oldest wine castle in Belgium: Genoels-Elderen castle in Riemst. Wine was already produced in this region during Roman times. Nowadays, the white Chardonnay and blue Pinot Noir grapes are grown here. The 20-hectare vineyards are open to visitors.

In Bokrijk, a new experience recently opened: A cycling path through the water. 212 meters through a pond in the unique nature park “The Wijers” .
